Knowledge and the knower is the core theme for the new TOK course for 2022. It considers the relationship between knowledge and those who possess that knowledge, considering issues such as how our perspectives, biases, and assumptions affect the way we produce and use knowledge.

The TOK essay is about knowledge (how we come to know things). It helps to think of the essay as though you're showing the most interesting bits of a conversation between two smart people, about how we know things. Or you could think about it like presenting two sides of an argument, in front of a judge. Each side needs to present evidence.

Links are made to history, science and religion, and the essay shows some coherent development in revisiting these areas of knowledge. Some arguments are well supported by examples, such as the treatment of the American Revolution as a situation in which knowers need to cope with bias.

Ethics: Ethics is extremely important when it comes to percieved knowledge due to how spreading biased knowledge could be detrimental to a cause or group associated with it, also with regard to the refugee situation, ethics plays an important role in perspective as it is up to each individual to decide what they believe is ethical or unethical.

They provide us with a valid set of expectations about what will probably occur based upon; A shared set of assumptions. Paradigms establish boundaries and Define how to succeed within the boundaries.
The summative assessment for this unit will allow you to practice your writing in TOK to help you develop an awareness of your perspective and the implications of this view. As you are aware in order to be successful in both the essay and the presentation, a TOK student needs to show an awareness of their view and be able to effectively evaluate the strengths and limitations of their view.
